IN TIMES LIKE THESE

On October 12, 2001, one month after the 9/11 tragedy, as the audience walked away from the show, you heard the familiar buzz, “After what happened last month, in times like these we need a show like this”. Even one year later when the writer was interviewed by NBC news channel in Chattanooga, TN. To her surprise the newscaster asked her, “Considering the tragedy of 9/11, do you feel that America, need this play”.

A PUNK-ROCK TEEN CAN’T EXPLAIN CHANGE

A teenager, who has never been inside of a church, saw the play. About six months later, she told her peers, “I don’t know what happened,” she said, “but something has changed in my heart, and now I know my life is going to go in a different way. The change started the night I saw the play TELL HELL…I AIN’T COMIN’.”

A BUDDHIST FAMILY THREW AWAY STATUE OF BUDDA

The twelve-year-old daughter of a family, who practices Buddhism, questioned scenes in the play. The daughter’s questions reminded the mother, of how when she was a little girl; her grandmother took her to church. Two weeks later, the family threw away all their Buddha statues. Soon thereafter, they went to a Christian church, and the whole family gave their lives to Jesus.

AIDS PATIENTS WITH ONLY WEEKS TO LIVE, REQUEST TO SEE THE PLAY.

The Wilshire Ebell Theater made provision in the theater for wheelchairs to be brought in. Six people were wheeled into the Theater that night. All six were Aids Patients, who had only months to live. Apparently, they had requested to be brought to see the play. In the coming month’s, they all passed away.

A DRUG ADDICTED MOTHER GETS CLEAN

Three months after seeing the play, a man called the producers and left this heartfelt message. “I am a father of five, and my wife is a drug addict. I brought my wife and our five kids. All I can say…there is a change in our home. I hope I am not talking too soon, but I believe the last time my wife went to rehab, was really the last time. She has been clean since seeing the play. The longest she’s been clean in years.”

CHURCH ANNOUNCES TWO WERE SAVED ON THE WAY HOME.

The church secretary of a local church, called the Production Company, with this report. “We brought thirty-five people to the play, two confessed their sins and gave their life to God on the bus on the way home from the play.”

A SCENE PLAYED OVER IN HER MEMORY AND RIGHT THEN SHE KNEW SHE WANTED TO BE SAVED

“I was in my bedroom reading, when suddenly my teenage daughter came rushing into my bedroom, stark naked with a wet soapy body right into my arms, screaming and crying, asking me to pray for her. Apparently while taking a shower, a scene from the play TELL HELL…I AIN’T COMIN’ played over in her memory, and right then she wanted to be saved.”

THE PROSTITUTE FOUND A BETTER WAY

It would be years after the first performance of the play in Los Angeles that the producers would learn that a Prostitute saw the play and gave up Prostitution.

AN ATHEIST CAME TO BE ENTERTAINED, BUT LEFT A CHANGED MAN

“Until I saw this play,” he told someone. “I never believed in all that religious stuff, you know, God, Jesus, and all that. But now I can’t pass a church without getting the feeling that maybe I should go in and hear what they have to say.”

A WAKE UP CALL

Then there are the thousands who simply say, “Thank you, for a wake up call.

CHRISTIAN AUTHOR

After watching “Tell Hell I ain’t comin” it stirred up something closer than just sheer entertainment. This musical play takes us on a journey through the eyes of Allgood an avid preacher man who ends up in hell, confronted with the perils of eternal damnation. Allgood never denied God not once. The energy these performers bring to the stage is compelling, positively encouraging, richly choreographed and exceedingly inspirational. The whole plot, setting, character, and writing style flowed with ease.

‘Tell Hell I aint comin”, inspires us to be brave, to go on in the fight for good against evil, confronting the inner villains of our past and present. At intervals, there may appear to be a crucifixion of your persona, but merely a reflection of your own qualities. One thing Samuels conveys, is that inexpressible joy is waiting for you just around the corner if you just learn to have faith and trust in God. And if you believe, God’s guidance will carry you exactly where you need to go.

Remarkably, times of great sorrow have the potential to be times of great transformation. This play is thought provoking and enriching. It grasps you and takes you on a touching journey, but at the end you will either leave that theater the same as you entered or with a new found heart. Beating to your own pulse, not a follower or an imitator of others.

Above all, I felt the play was very entertaining at the same time the message was clear, we are all a living example of the highest potential that lies within each and every human being.

I really felt that there was something for everyone in this play Christian or non-Christian. Beyond a doubt this was brilliance on display, a joy to watch, it is highly motivational and energising.

I am so excited about this play and cannot wait for it to hit the theaters in London, England. This has captivated the US audience for many years and I am sure it will captivate us here in the UK. K. Rae (Author of “Healing Power of the Psalms”)
